<p>- Provision of prizes for firms to increase the number of deposits in national and international patents and designs (30.5 million euros).<br />
- Provision of incentives to bring to market new products based on patents and designs (15 million).</p>
<p><strong>Not all evil is a silver lining, perhaps the crisis has its positive side, at least now the EU countries have realized that it is essential encourage Research and Innovation</strong></p>

<p>An American engineer at Duke University, North Carolina, has created a<strong> system of solar panels capable of transforming a mixture of water and methanol into hydrogen</strong>, to be used immediately thanks to a fuel cell, or to be stored in a tank and then supply the fuel cell when needed, at night or winter, for example.</p>
<p><span id="more-643"></span>The company Electronica Santerno had on sale up to a few years ago a fuel cell converter capable of converting electric energy produced by the panels into hydrogen, which was then used to return energy whenever low solar radiation occurred. All these systems are devised for trying  to compensate the production changes that PV systems unfortunately have.  IMO I say that a good solution could be the immission of energy into the power grid through smarter energy networks, able to equalize the global energy consumption.<strong>I recommend to read, for  a better understanding, &#8220;Hydrogen Economy&#8221; by  Geremy Rifkin</strong>: I think some concepts therein are really interesting and innovative.</p>

<strong>Technological delirium or perhaps a way to not change anything?</strong> <span id="more-599"></span><br />
I extrapolated this portion of article form &#8220;il Sole 24 ore&#8221; (an italian Business &amp; finance Newspaper) to bring to your attention a theme I loved: the little economic sensitivity of those facing the design of future electric cars.<br />
Who is devoted to this theme often forget that these vehicles are aimed at a market in need of zero environmental impact transportation means but also accessible in terms of price.<br />
Without a balance <strong>between environmental issues and affordable prices</strong> all these interesting technological researches will remain mere dreams and still leave room for the usual greedy conventional cars!<br />
<strong>That perhaps is what the giants of black gold want! </strong><br />
Personally, I am facing this issue trying to use my IVT to develop an engine for hybrid and electric cars.<br />
My IVT allows the use of a very economic conventional engine and requires no special drive inverters and no system<br />
cooling.<br />
<strong>The technical obstacles to overcome in the accomplishment of this project are considerable but the primary obstacle to overcome is unfortunately the &#8220;human&#8221; factor.</strong></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Reducing the production cost of renewable energy is a priority in order to favour its commercial penetration. This can only be achieved through a real technological enhancement that allows reducing costs for the building of plants as well as improving their efficiency.<br />
<strong>Improving the features of the turbine axle is certainly an effective strategy. </strong><span id="more-550"></span><br />
The first generators used in windmills were conventional electrical motors used as generators and normally connected to the electrical grid.<br />
<strong>Despite the low production cost, there was the drawback: the efficiency curve usually had a relevant maximum at the nominal power of the motor.</strong><br />
When the turbine was working at a different wattage, efficiency dropped, with a negative impact on the overall energy efficiency.<br />
<strong>The introduction of large inverters was an attempt to solve the problem, but the cost of this power electronics is so high that other solutions were sought. </strong><br />
The problems mentioned above can be solved using a gearbox/variator without toothed wheels.<br />
<strong>This gearbox can keep efficiency at over 95% throughout the whole period of use.</strong><br />

<h2>Best Innovator 2004</h2>
<p>On 16 November 2004, during the first Innovation Day organised by Confindustria (the Confederation of Italian Industry), Pirelli Pneumatici received the <strong>&#8216;Best Innovator 2004&#8242;</strong> award, organised by  <strong  >A.T. Kearney</strong> in cooperation with <strong  >Confindustria</strong>, as an acknowledgment of the capability to create something valuable through innovation. The prize was awarded for the excellence achieved in integrating different innovative dimensions, and it is also an acknowledgment of the cutting-edge technology used by Pirelli and particularly the <strong>MIRS (Modular Integrated Robotized System)</strong> production system, and the innovative compound <strong >room CCM (Continuous Compound Mixing)</strong>. Pirelly has patented both system, which allow reducing significantly times and costs for the production of high-end tyres, at the same time increasing flexibility and product quality.</p>
